Our Office Performs Dental Restorations and Teeth Restorations
We perform dental restorations, something that makes us, as a cosmetic dentist different from many general dentist offices. We go through additional training to improve the appearance of one’s teeth while simultaneously restoring their function.
WE ARE EXPERIENCED AND SKILLED IN DENTAL RESTORATIONS AND RESTORING YOUR TEETH
We find that there is some confusion about what role a cosmetic dentist plays in the functional elements of your teeth. The traditional view has been that a cosmetic dentist focuses mostly on the esthetics of the teeth, gums and bite while paying no attention to how the mouth functions. With major advancements in medical science, these once clear lines have become blurry. For example, many of the restorations we perform are vital for ensuring that a patient can speak and eat properly. The truth is that our focus remains on giving you a beautiful smile. However, while we are performing procedures like gingivectomies and placing dental crowns, we are also working to improve how your mouth functions as well.
TO SHOW HOW RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY CAN INFLUENCE THE FUNCTIONALITY OF YOUR MOUTH HERE ARE TWO EXAMPLES OF THE KIND OF WORK OUR HILLCREST OFFICE PERFORMS.
First, we want you to consider the humble dental crown. The dental crown is a cap that is created in the shape of your tooth. It surrounds the visible portion of the tooth and is used to protect a tooth that has advanced decay, or to reinforce a tooth that has been broken, chipped, or cracked. Prior to restorations like dental crowns, teeth had to be pulled or people had to live with broken teeth for the rest of their lives. For someone like a child or a young adult, this was torturous, especially considering the adverse effect a missing tooth can have on the ability to eat whatever you want and speak normally. By simply placing a natural-looking dental crown, we can often save and restore damaged teeth so that the functionality and appearance of your smile can remain intact.
We also perform smile makeovers. There are instances when it is necessary to utilize more than one solution for restoring the function and appearance of your smile. For patients that have some infected or damaged teeth, possibly some missing teeth, our restorations may include dental veneers, crowns, bridges, and implants. We will use whatever solutions are necessary to ensure that your dental restorations provide you with a superior level of functionality. For example, if you cracked your tooth, a dental veneer may provide the restorative solution you need. However, if a larger portion of your tooth is damaged or the enamel has worn away, a crown would be a better solution because it surrounds your tooth entirely. Simultaneously, if a tooth has fallen out, a dental bridge or dental implant would be necessary for permanently replacing the tooth. Working together, our Hillcrest dental office can give you back your gorgeous smile.
